What 𑨄 means
In Zanabazar Square, it changes a consonant’s default vowel to e.
The default a is unwritten; after 𑨀, it writes independent e.
Credited to Zanabazar, it predates Soyombo, created in 1686. Tibetan writing and India’s older Brahmi script tradition influenced it; it served Mongolian, Sanskrit and Tibetan Buddhist texts. Byambaa Ragchaa’s 2025 study records seven alphabet manuscripts and prints from carved blocks and inscriptions in vertical and horizontal layouts. Its forms resemble Phags-pa, a distinct square script dated to 1269.
Why does 𑨄 show a dotted circle?
The circle marks an unattached sign in charts.
A Unicode report in 2018 found no standard order for multiple vowel signs and the length mark; odd stacks can reflect input order or font support.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𑨄 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
