What 𐄢 means
The whole sign stands for one thousand.
Aegean numerals use addition: you add the values of the signs to read the total. For example, combining 𐄢 with the hundred sign 𐄙 gives 1,100. This is an illustration of the system, not a quotation from a tablet. The circle and strokes belong to one numeral; you do not count them separately.
Who used this way of counting?
Bronze Age scribes used these numerals in administrative records.
On clay tablets from the Aegean world, including Crete, numbers accompanied signs for goods and measures. Linear A recorded a Minoan language that remains undeciphered; Linear B adapted that writing tradition for an early form of Greek. Recognising a number does not mean we can read all the surrounding words.
Linear A also recorded fractions. Linear B distinguished units for weight, dry goods and liquids. The thousand sign supplies the numerical amount, not a fixed unit such as kilograms or litres.

Questions people ask
1Why do I see a box instead of the sign?
Your font may lack this character. Use a font that supports Aegean Numbers. It is a text character, so successful entry alone does not guarantee that your app can display it.

𐄢\10122Why is 𐄢 a box on my screen?
fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
Codes and encoding1 code points
