What 𐄀 means
Linear A, an ancient Aegean script, already used the divider. Linear B adapted Linear A to write Mycenaean Greek; the earliest material at Knossos dates to the late 15th or early 14th century BCE. The mark may descend from longer lines dividing entries. Later Cypriot writing, linked with the earlier Cypro-Minoan script, also used it.
On clay records it saved space and helped parse entries; transcriptions render it as a comma. Pylos scribes used it more than Knossos scribes; it could be omitted or placed inside a word.

Questions people ask
1Why is 𐄀 replaced in right-to-left text?
To protect the layout. Wikisource’s Idalion Tablet transcription replaces it with spaces; as of 2026-09-14, this is a formatting workaround, not a new meaning.
