What ⌮ means
It applies the profile tolerance around a feature's visible outline.
GD&T means geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, the notation used on engineering drawings to define geometric requirements. A feature-control frame is the box that holds a control, its tolerance, and any datum references. ⌮ is placed where the leader meets the frame; it carries the profile tolerance around the outline shown in that view, including its corners.
The all-around use appears in ASME Y14.5 in 1982. The all-over modifier, for a part's three-dimensional profile, was added in 2009.
Keep the profile to the indicated view
An all-around callout follows the outline in the view it identifies. It does not automatically cover the part's other faces. For a three-dimensional scope, the all-over modifier uses two concentric circles with an arrow.
The related profile-of-a-surface control is . The modifier ⌮ changes how far that profile tolerance applies; the complete callout still supplies the control, tolerance value, view, and any datum references.
Formal GD&T notation for engineering drawings and inspection notes.
All-around follows one indicated view's outline; it does not mean all-over.
Questions people ask
2Is all around the same as all over?
No. All-around applies along the visible outline in the indicated view; all-over applies to the part's three-dimensional profile.
Why does all-around profile look different in my font?
Font support varies. A font may draw ⌮ differently or show a replacement box if it lacks the character; the complete drawing callout supplies its engineering meaning.
