What 𐋃 means
ST2 names a variant of the Carian sign ST. Keeping the variant distinct lets scholars discuss decipherment and, in some cases, signal a text's date or region.
The oldest known Carian inscription dates to the seventh century BCE: the name of Egyptian pharaoh Psammetichus I appears on a figurine of Isis. Inscriptions from Caria include public decrees; Egyptian examples include funerary texts and graffiti. Carian texts in Anatolia generally run left to right, while Egyptian Carian texts chiefly run right to left; Unicode 17.0 encodes the script left to right. Egyptian inscriptions written in two languages helped scholars see that some Carian signs resembling Greek letters represented different sounds. Adiego and Schürr independently deciphered many signs in 1993.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𐋃 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Carian block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
