What ㊆ means
It means seven, written inside a circle.
Unicode groups the circled seven with East Asian numeral forms from one to ten. The set was originally meant as numbered list bullets and remains encoded for compatibility with older East Asian character sets.
Why does ㊆ appear as a box?
Your font or text encoding may not support the character.
A box is a display failure, not another form of this symbol.
The Japanese National Diet Library's 2026 text-production specification preserves enclosed numerals in UTF-8, a text encoding; when one cannot be preserved, it uses full-width parentheses: (七).
Questions people ask
1Why does ㊆ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Enclosed CJK Letters and Months block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
