What ᷋ means
It records a rising pitch contour in Lithuanian dialect transcription. Antanas Baranauskas used it in descriptions of Lithuanian dialects in the 19th century. A mora is a unit of syllable timing: the mark can indicate an unstressed syllable lasting three moras, or the first part of a secondarily stressed diphthong—a vowel that moves between two sounds.
Baranauskas's notation was carried into scholarly editions and online publications. The companion mark ᷌ belongs to the same transcription convention.
How do I type ᷋?
Place it after the base character it modifies. In HTML, write ᷋; in JavaScript, JSON, or Python strings, use \u1DCB.
Without a base, the sequence is defective: software may show a dotted circle, leave the mark floating, or show almost nothing. If it sits off-center, font fallback may be drawing the base and mark with different fonts.
A specialist phonetic mark in Lithuanian dialect transcription; its position records pitch.
Alone, it can appear over a dotted circle or look detached.
