What Ϭ means
It represents a speech sound inside Coptic words. This is the capital form of the letter.
Coptic is a later written form of Egyptian. Its alphabet adapted Greek letters and added signs from Demotic, the last major Egyptian script before Coptic, for sounds Greek lacked. Greek letters appeared in short notes for Egyptian words during the first and second centuries CE; a more settled alphabet took shape around the turn of the third century CE. Coptic texts served in records, Christian writing and worship, letters, and schools.
Historical and language-specific; it belongs in Coptic writing or discussion of the script.
