What ₢ means
₢ joins Latin C and lowercase r for Brazil’s cruzeiro currency.
It joins the first letters of Portuguese cruzeiro. In Cr$, ₢ stands for Cr; $ stays separate.
Brazil introduced the cruzeiro in 1942 to replace mil-réis and unify its currency. Inflation reforms renamed it: cruzeiro novo (1967), cruzeiro (1970), cruzado (1986), cruzado novo (1989), cruzeiro again (1990), cruzeiro real (1993), then real (1994).
Is ₢ the same as Cr?
No. ₢ stands for Cr; Cr$ adds a separate dollar sign.

Questions people ask
1Why does ₢ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
