What 𒃲 means
It means “big” or “great” in Sumerian. GAL-A appears as a predecessor in proto-cuneiform, an early stage of cuneiform. Scribes changed picture-like marks into wedges; Sumerian sign values later carried into Akkadian and other languages.
𒂍 is E₂, “house”; with GAL it forms e₂-gal, “palace.” In Akkadian, another Mesopotamian language, word lists match GAL with the word for “big.” GAL can add that meaning without making every word mean “big.”
