What 𞁓 means
It labels a sound category in Cyrillic transcription.
An archiphoneme groups sounds a language stops distinguishing in one context; the transcription key identifies the group. Kalnyn and Popova’s 2007 study of two Bulgarian dialects uses 𞁓 in this role. Cyrillic subscripts can label archiphonemes, while superscripts show pronunciation detail. An earlier convention in Serbian linguist Aleksandar Belić’s 1905 dialect study used raised and lowered letters for stronger and weaker vowel values.
Specialist notation: read the subscript using the transcription key.
Do not replace it with ordinary в in a transcription; that erases the subscript distinction.
