What 🄃 means
It combines “2,” with an enclosure in one typographic mark.
It belongs to a series for digits zero through nine; its role is to preserve a compact number-and-comma form.
Japan’s Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB) lists it as entry 9234 in STD-B24, its digital-broadcast coding standard. A 2008 Unicode proposal explains that unencoded broadcast marks used private-use font slots—positions a font maker reserves for custom symbols—which could conflict with vendor-defined characters. Unicode included 🄃 in 2009; that dates its computer standardization, not the mark’s origin.
