Double Nested Less-Than

⪡ is a specialist mathematical relation whose reading depends on its notation. Unicode associates it with “absolute continuity” and maps it to ≪, the much-less-than sign; that does not make the two interchangeable.

What ⪡ means

Notation supplies its exact reading. Unicode lists “absolute continuity” and links ⪡ to ≪, the much-less-than sign.

In browsers and word processors, font coverage can change its shape or show a missing-glyph box if no available font contains ⪡ (as of October 2026).

Why does ⪡ show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
