What ჺ means
It marks a Bats throat sound. Bats uses a Georgian script adapted for its sounds, with ჺ modeled on Arabic ʿayn (ع).
Georgian writing is attested in church texts from the 5th century and developed through Asomtavruli, Nuskhuri and Mkhedruli, the modern form. A 1984 Bats–Georgian–Russian dictionary reproduces ჺ from a handwritten manuscript; its material was collected about half a century before publication. A Unicode proposal from 1999 cites that example; it dates use, not invention.

CLDR 43's Android Georgian layout omits ჺ from its basic keys; ChromeOS lists it among shifted symbols. Enter U10FA in a character picker if needed; a box means the font lacks the glyph.
