What ⪊ means
The left expression is greater than the right, without approximation.
MathML lists it as an infix relation, meaning the sign goes between the two expressions it compares.
Is ⪊ the same as ?
No; allows “greater than or roughly equal,” while ⪊ rules out that reading.
What do gnap and gnapprox mean?
They are MathML markup names for the same relation.
In a 1998 MathML draft, both appeared beside E411, a code from an area reserved for private assignments; it served as a stand-in before the relation received its standard Unicode character.
Questions people ask
1Why does ⪊ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
