hangul jongseong kiyeok-sios

Hangul final jamo kiyeok-sios

ᆪ is the final-position jamo for ㄳ, a Korean double batchim: two consonants written at the end of a syllable. At a word end or before another consonant, only the ㄱ side is heard; before a vowel, ㅅ starts the next syllable. In ordinary Korean writing, you type the full syllable block, not an isolated ᆪ.

What ᆪ means

It writes a ㄱ+ㅅ ending inside a Korean syllable. ᆪ is a final-position jamo, a letter form used in the bottom slot of a Hangul syllable. This double batchim is spelled with both consonants, even though pronunciation changes with the next sound.

The 1446 Hunminjeongeum Haerye, an explanation of the Korean alphabet, describes syllables made from an initial, a middle vowel, and a final, including endings of two or three consonants. It records the spelling system, not this later standalone digital form. Older Korean spelling used more final combinations; modern standard spelling keeps a smaller set, including ㄳ.

How is ㄳ pronounced?

The next sound decides which part carries over. At a word end or before a consonant, standard Korean pronounces only the ㄱ side, as a clipped k. Before a vowel, ㅅ moves to the next syllable and sounds like s.

The spelling remains ㄳ in all three contexts; the examples show sound changes, not different characters.

How do I type ᆪ?

Build the complete Korean syllable with a Korean input method. Type the word; the input method combines the two consonants into a final cluster inside the syllable block.

Insert raw ᆪ only when your text needs a positional jamo, such as in font testing or linguistic notation. As of 2026, modern browsers broadly support shaping conjoining Hangul jamo; other applications are less consistent.

Alone, ᆪ signals Hangul spelling or text-processing; it does not express a conversational tone.

For an everyday Korean word, enter the complete syllable; ᆪ is only its ending.

Why does ᆪ look incomplete by itself?

It is a positional jamo designed for the bottom slot of a syllable block. Fonts and apps vary in how they shape a standalone final jamo, so it may appear detached.
