What 바 means
A Korean syllable; its role comes from the words around it. In Hangul, 바 is one syllable, romanized as ba. Inside a word, it contributes a syllable to the whole word.
As a bound noun—a noun used with a phrase that modifies it—바 can refer to something already mentioned, a method, or a situation. The formal pattern -는 바이다 presents a preceding statement as the speaker’s stated position.
Why was Hangul created?
To write Korean speech in a learnable system. Hangul was developed in Korea under King Sejong so Korean could be written with a regular set of consonant and vowel letters. Those letters combine into syllable blocks such as 바.
The earliest surviving record of Hangul’s creation dates to 1443 and says the king created 28 letters. The explanatory book Hunminjeongeum followed in 1446, describing the design and how letters form syllables.
Names for the writing system included gukmun and gukseo after 1894; Hangeul was widely used as its name by 1928. These dates describe the script’s history, not the first use of every syllable block.
How do I type 바?
Use Korean input and enter ㅂ followed by ㅏ. The input method combines those letters into the syllable block 바.
Unicode can store the syllable as one character or as a sequence of separate Korean letters, called jamo. They may display alike, while software comparing unnormalized text can distinguish the encodings; the Korean reading stays the same.
Neutral as a syllable; -는 바이다 is formal and presents a stated position.
A bare 바 does not identify which noun sense or grammatical role is intended.

1Why does 바 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
