What 뱈 means
It gives one Korean syllable; the surrounding word supplies the meaning.
Hangul writes syllables in blocks. Here ㅂ is the initial consonant, ㅐ the vowel, and ㅋ the final consonant, so 뱈 is a spelling unit within a Korean word or name.
How do I type 뱈?
Use Korean input: enter ㅂ, then ㅐ, then ㅋ.
A Korean input method editor (IME) joins the initial consonant, vowel, and final consonant into one block. If the jamo stay separate as ㅂㅐㅋ, the IME did not compose them; switch to Korean input.
Why are Hangul syllables written in blocks?
Hangul was designed to make Korean easier to write and learn.
At the time, writing Korean relied on Chinese characters. The court chronicle Sejong Sillok records Hunminjeongeum, the new writing system, in 1443. An explanatory book with that name appeared in 1446, setting out its purpose and the initial, medial, and final positions used to assemble a syllable block.
Hangul became Korea’s official national writing system in 1894. Phags-pa, a script with square-shaped characters developed for the Mongol-ruled Yuan Empire, was formally introduced in 1269. It is considered a possible influence on Hangul’s design, but that connection is debated.
