Hangul Syllable Bbaeng

뺑 (ppaeng) is a Korean Hangul syllable, not an emoji or standalone word. In 뺑뺑 it pictures tight spinning or circling; in 뺑소니 it starts the word for a hit-and-run. Alone, read it from the surrounding Korean.

What 뺑 means

Alone, 뺑 has no complete meaning. The tense ㅃ makes it the punchy cousin of 뱅, a circling sound word. Doubled as 뺑뺑 it sketches something whirling round and round, even to dizziness; inside the fixed word 뺑소니 that circling sense disappears into fleeing.

Hangul was invented as Hunminjeongeum in 1443 and explained in 1446, and the 1945 division later shaped different North and South policies. This block follows the same recipe: type ㅃ ㅐ ㅇ on a Korean IME and the font fuses them into 뺑; stored text may use equivalent decomposed jamo.

Neutral as a syllable; the surrounding word sets the tone.

Do not translate isolated 뺑 as “spinning.”

Questions people ask

1

Why does 뺑 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
