hangul syllable bbeulb

Hangul Syllable Bbeulb

5220/11172

쁣 is one Korean syllable block; on its own, it does not identify a particular word. It appears in Hangul text, while input methods and fonts affect how it is entered and displayed. The Unicode label “bbeulb” describes its construction, not a translation.

What 쁣 means

쁣 is a Hangul syllable block, not a word gloss. Hangul, the Korean writing system, combines separate consonant and vowel letters called jamo into syllable blocks. Unicode builds the name “bbeulb” from the block’s components; it describes that construction, not a translation. On its own, the block does not identify a particular word.

The Korean writing system was recorded under the name Hunminjeongeum in 1443; an explanatory book published in 1446 describes its purpose and shows how initial, middle, and final sounds form a syllable. Unicode’s modern set contains the 11,172 syllables in South Korea’s KS C 5601-1992 computer character standard.

How do I type 쁣?

A Korean input method editor (IME) composes its three jamo. Enter initial ᄈ, vowel ᅳ, and final ᆲ in order; the IME is keyboard software that assembles Hangul as you type, and physical keys depend on your layout.

The precomposed block and the separate sequence 쁣 can look alike while having different underlying character sequences. Unicode NFC (Normalization Form C) can compose the jamo sequence into the single syllable block.

Why does 쁣 look different in fonts?

Font fallback shows a box when no usable Hangul glyph is available. Fonts can draw the strokes with different proportions. The box is a rendering fallback, not a different character.

Technical and orthographic: the block identifies one Korean syllable; surrounding text establishes its role in a word.

Why does 쁣 show as a square?

Your active font or its fallback lacks a usable Hangul glyph. Another font may display the same character; the square is a rendering fallback.
