Hangul syllable Bbwaet

5010/11172

뾑 is one Hangul syllable, so its meaning depends on the Korean word around it. It is not an emoji with a fixed chat meaning. Three Hangul jamo form it; input methods, Unicode normalization and fonts can show or draw those parts differently.

What 뾑 means

It is one written syllable, not a picture standing for a reaction.

In a Korean word, the surrounding text determines its meaning. By itself, this block does not carry a fixed chat response.

The exact jamo are ᄈ at the start, ᅫ in the middle, and ᇀ at the end. A jamo is one of Hangul's letters; together these three make the syllable.

Was Hangul influenced by Phags-pa?

Some scholars propose an influence; it is not a settled origin.

King Sejong's court developed Hangul to write Korean in the Joseon kingdom. A record of its creation appears in 1443; the 1446 guide Hunminjeongeum (훈민정음) explains the letters and syllable structure. Earlier Korean names included Jeongeum (정음), Eonmun (언문), Gukmun (국문), and Gukseo (국서); “Hangul” became widely used by 1928.

Phags-pa was a square script based on Tibetan writing and used for several languages under Mongol rule. Some scholars have proposed that it influenced Hangul, but the connection remains a hypothesis, not settled descent.

How do I type 뾑?

Use the Korean 2-set keyboard with a Korean IME.

On a QWERTY keyboard set to the standard Korean 2-set layout, enable Korean input and press ShiftQ, H, O, then X. The IME joins the opening consonant, vowel and final consonant into 뾑.

Unicode normalization can store this as one composed syllable (NFC) or as separate jamo (NFD); the Korean text stays the same.

Neutral within Korean words; outside them, the character gives little context.

Do not assume it is a chat reaction without Korean context.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 뾑 look different in different fonts?

Fonts can give the same encoded syllable different outlines or spacing; that changes its appearance, not its text. Decomposed jamo may also display separately if an app does not shape them together.
