Hangul syllable 쀩

5162/11172

쀩 is a Korean Hangul syllable block with no fixed meaning on its own. In a word it supplies one syllable, and surrounding Korean text tells you the word's meaning. Its Hangul jamo—the consonant and vowel letters—sit together in one block.

What 쀩 means

By itself, 쀩 has no fixed word-level meaning. It is a Hangul block for one Korean syllable. Inside a word, it contributes one syllable; the surrounding Korean text supplies the word's meaning.

The block combines the initial consonant jamo ㅃ, vowel jamo ㅟ, and final consonant jamo ㄺ. Jamo are Hangul's consonant and vowel letters; the block groups them into one syllable, not a complete word.

Why was Hangul created?

Hangul was created as a more accessible way to write Korean speech. A court record says 28 letters had been made by 1443; the text that introduced them, 훈민정음, was completed in 1446.

The script gave people with less access to Chinese-character education a sound-based way to write Korean. It became the official script for public documents in 1894, and printing and newspapers later widened its reach. South Korea commonly calls it Hangul; North Korea uses Choseongul for the same script. 쀩 is one of Hangul's syllable blocks.

How do I type 쀩?

Enter ㅃ, ㅟ, then ㄺ with a Korean input method. Set a Korean input method editor (IME) to Hangul and enter those jamo in order. When composition is active, it joins them into the single block 쀩.

Fonts can change the shape, proportions, and placement of the block's parts without changing the character. If 쀩 appears as an empty box, the active font or its fallback may not contain a usable glyph.

Neutral as text; it has no built-in reaction tone.

Sending 쀩 by itself does not reliably communicate a word-level meaning.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 쀩 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
