What 뼓 means
It is one written syllable, built from Hangul letters.
Hangul blocks join an initial consonant, a vowel, and sometimes a final consonant. “Bbyeolb” is a Unicode label, not a translation; this block canonically decomposes into three Hangul jamo (letters): ᄈ ᅧ ᆲ.
Why was Hangul created?
To make Korean easier to write and learn.
Developed in 1443, Hangul was explained in Hunminjeongeum, a guide published in 1446. Idu, Hyangchal, and Gugyeol adapted Chinese characters for Korean; Hangul was a planned native script.
It became Joseon's official script in 1894. After Japan annexed Korea in 1910, colonial rules restricted Korean-language education and publication; scholarship, teaching, and literature continued.

1Why does 뼓 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
