hangul syllable bim

Hangul syllable Bim

빔
is a syllable in Hangul, the Korean writing system; its meaning depends on the word or phrase around it, not a fixed emoji reaction. The syllable appears in Korean terms for projectors, laser beams, and stage lighting. Hangul, first called Hunminjeongeum, was created in 1443 and promulgated in 1446.

What 빔 means

The word around it determines the sense. In 빔 프로젝터, the phrase means projector; 레이저 빔 means laser beam. The stage-light term 빔 라이트 uses it for a narrow beam. A Korean government terminology entry also uses 빔 for a ship’s maximum width.

Where did Hangul come from?

Hangul was designed to make Korean easier to write. Idu, Gugyeol, and Hyangchal were older methods that used Chinese characters to write Korean. Hangul later appeared in Buddhist and Confucian texts, everyday writing, laws, and government documents. It became official in 1894 and faced suppression after 1910.

Why does 빔 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
