hangul syllable bwilt

Hangul syllable bwilt

뷡 is one Hangul syllable block; its word meaning depends on the Korean text around it. It groups an initial consonant, a vowel, and a final consonant cluster into one syllable. King Sejong devised Hangul in 1443 to make Korean easier to write; its explanatory book Hunminjeongeum was completed in 1446.

What 뷡 means

It joins ㅂ, ㅟ, and final ㄾ.

ㅂ is the initial consonant, ㅟ the vowel, and ㄾ a final cluster of ㄹ and ㅌ. Together they spell a syllable; the Korean word around it supplies its meaning.

How did Hangul spread?

It spread from everyday writing into official use.

Ordinary readers used it in letters and Buddhist texts; popular novels widened its reach during the 17th and 18th centuries. Hangul entered official Korean documents after the 1894 Kabo government reform.

Why does 뷡 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
