What 볨 means
A Korean syllable sound, not a complete word. 볨 joins ㅂ (opening consonant), ㅖ (vowel), and ㅁ (final consonant). Korean text around it tells you which word it belongs to.
How did Hangul develop?
Hangul was devised to make Korean easier to write. Its creation is recorded in 1443; the 1446 Hunminjeongeum manuscript explains the script and its purpose.
During the Joseon period, Hangul appeared in letters, literature, copying, and calligraphy beside Hanja (Chinese characters) and Idu (a Korean writing system using Chinese characters). By the modern period, its public role had expanded and the name Hangul had taken hold.
