Text symbol

What 쵛 means

In a Korean input method, enter ㅊ, ㅗ, ㅐ, then ㅎ.

The input method combines ㅗ ㅐ into ㅙ, then groups initial consonant ㅊ, vowel ㅙ and final consonant ㅎ in one block.

What does 쵛 mean? Is 쵛 an emoji?

It is Hangul text, not an emoji.

It contributes one syllable within Korean words and sentences. As of September 2026, no fixed chat meaning was established for this exact block, so a recipient may see unexplained Korean text.

Unicode treats a precomposed Hangul syllable and its matching sequence of individual Hangul letters (jamo) as equivalent text. A font without the separate letters may display that sequence differently.

When was Hangul created?

Hangul was created in Joseon in 1443. The Korean kingdom introduced it as a way to write Korean speech without relying on Chinese characters. Its 1446 guidebook, 훈민정음, explained its letters and how they combine into syllable blocks.

During the 15th century, Hangul appeared in practical books, translated Buddhist texts and literature, although many elite writers continued using Classical Chinese, a written form used in scholarship. It was also called 언문 (vernacular writing). Korea designated Hangul as an official script in 1894; the name 한글 appears in records from the early 1910s. Unicode records this exact character in 1996, long after Hangul’s creation.

Neutral Hangul text; surrounding Korean words set its conversational tone.

Without surrounding Korean text, a recipient may not know what message you intend.

1

Why does 쵛 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
