What 첒 means
On Korean 2-beolsik, press C, ShiftO, then W.
Switch your input method to Korean first. The keys enter ㅊ as the starting consonant, ㅒ as the vowel, and ㅈ as the ending consonant; the input method assembles them into 첒. Other Korean keyboard layouts, including three-set and phone layouts, may assign the components to different keys.
첒 is a precomposed Hangul syllable block. Unicode treats its component sequence as one syllable for text segmentation and line breaking, while the font determines how the shape is drawn. A box or fallback shape points to font support.
What does 첒 mean?
Its word-level meaning comes from the Korean text around it.
The block combines ㅊ ㅒ ㅈ into one syllable. Read it within a Korean word; the surrounding syllables supply the word's meaning.
Hangul's system was developed around 1443. The Hunminjeongeum, the text that introduced it, was promulgated in 1446 to make Korean easier to read and write and to help readers represent the sounds of Chinese characters. Some early critics treated the vernacular script as socially inferior; by the modern period, Hangul had become central to Korean writing.
A debated hypothesis links Hangul's design to the Phags-pa script, an earlier writing system. That proposal does not establish a direct ancestor for 첒.
