Hangul syllable Ddelg

뗅 is one written Korean syllable, not a complete word by itself. Hangul combines consonant and vowel letters called jamo; this block contains ㄸ, ㅔ, and ㄺ. On a Korean Dubeolsik keyboard, its sequence is ShiftE, P, F, R. Read it as part of the Korean word around it.

What 뗅 means

It is one written Korean syllable, not a word by itself. Hangul arranges consonant and vowel letters, called jamo, into syllable blocks. 뗅 has ㄸ at the start, ㅔ in the middle, and ㄺ at the end. Inside a Korean word it fills one syllable; alone, it does not tell you which word or message is meant.

On the Korean 2-set keyboard, called Dubeolsik, ShiftE, P, F, R enters those pieces in order: ShiftE gives ㄸ, P gives ㅔ, and F followed by R forms ㄺ.

How did Hangul become the alphabet for Korean?

Hangul was designed as a writing system for Korean. Its first recorded mention appears in the Sejong Sillok in 1443, and an explanatory book, Hunminjeongeum, was published in 1446. It was meant to make Korean easier to write for people who found Chinese-character transcription difficult. Early books could mix Hangul with Chinese characters or use small Hangul letters to show Chinese pronunciation. Over time, Hangul became the native alphabet used for Korean. This history belongs to the writing system, not to a separate invention of this one block.

Did Phags-pa influence Hangul?

It is a debated possibility, not an established source. Phags-pa was a square phonetic script created under Kublai Khan and promulgated in 1269 for languages governed by the Yuan dynasty. Some Korean scholars proposed that its letter shapes influenced Hangul. Hangul’s own explanatory account lays out its design principles, so the resemblance alone does not establish direct borrowing.

Inside Korean spelling, the block is neutral; alone, it reads like a spelling fragment because the word around it is missing.

A bare block lacks the word around it; ask for the full Korean word or sentence.
