What 떡 means
Usually, rice cake; context supplies the metaphor. 떡 먹듯 means easily, as in doing something like eating rice cake, while 떡이 되다 means going limp with exhaustion or shock.
떡 is one Hangul block built from ㄸ + ㅓ + ㄱ, not a picture. Hangul itself was created and promulgated in 1443–1446 to write Korean more easily. The food is older: tteok's beginnings belong to the Bronze Age or early Iron Age, it moved toward ceremonies and gifts in the Three Kingdoms era, and Joseon records show more methods.
