What 떨 means
떨 is a Korean syllable used in words about shaking. 떨리다 means “tremble”; 떨다 can also mean knocking dust loose. Alone, 떨 leaves the word’s sense open.
King Sejong’s court devised Hangul in 1443–1447 so Korean could be written directly. The 1446 guide 훈민정음 explained its letters; the court poem 용비어천가 first printed them in 1447. Officials wrote Classical Chinese; clerks also used Idu, a way to write Korean with Chinese characters. Unicode encodes 떨 as one syllable block or an equivalent letter sequence.
