Hangul Syllable Ddolg

똙 is a Hangul syllable block. In Korean writing it belongs inside a word; sent alone, its intended meaning is unclear.

Text symbol

What 똙 means

It identifies a Korean syllable, not a complete message.

Hangul’s letters for building syllables are called jamo. 똙 joins ㄸ (initial consonant), ㅗ (vowel) and ㄺ (final pair); typefaces can shift their size and position, as a 2019 study documented.

Hangul was created in 1443 to make Korean writing easier; a 1446 book explained it. Earlier Korean writing adapted Chinese characters in systems called Idu, Gugyeol and Hyangchal. Hangul later served religious, practical, private and official uses; it became official in 1894.

What if someone sends 똙 alone?

A lone syllable block does not reveal a reaction.

Ask for the surrounding word or intended input before reading a tone into it.
