Hangul syllable Ddweob

2762/11172

뛉 is one Hangul syllable block, built from the consonant ㄸ, vowel ㅝ, and final consonant ㅂ. On its own, it does not identify a familiar Korean word or carry a standard chat reaction; its role depends on the surrounding text. A Korean 2-set (Dubeolsik) keyboard can compose it from those parts.

What 뛉 means

It is one Korean syllable, not a word by itself. The block combines initial consonant ㄸ, vowel ㅝ, and final consonant ㅂ. In Hangul, these parts are grouped to write a spoken syllable. The label Ddweob names this syllable; it is not an English translation. Read it as part of the Korean word around it.

How did Hangul develop?

Hangul was made to write Korean speech more directly. Earlier methods such as Idu, Gugyeol, and Hyangchal adapted Chinese characters to write Korean, and could be difficult to learn. The first record of Hunminjeongeum appears in Sejong Sillok in 1443; an explanatory book with that name was published in 1446.

Hangul later appeared in Buddhist scriptures and Confucian translations. The Korean word 한글 became widely used as the script's name in 1928.

A connection between Hangul vowel design and Phags-pa is debated. A 2009 study in the Journal of Korean Linguistics argues that Phags-pa influenced parts of the vowel design. This proposal concerns Hangul's design, not a claim that 뛉 descends from a Chinese character or a Phags-pa sign.

How do I type 뛉 on a Korean 2-set keyboard?

Enter ㄸ ㅝ ㅂ in a Korean IME. On the Dubeolsik layout, press ShiftE, N, J, Q; the input method composes those jamo into 뛉.

A font can change the strokes without changing the character. An editor or normalization tool may show the component jamo separately; that is a different representation of the same syllable.

Neutral as Korean text; alone, the block has no dependable emotional tone.

Do not read an isolated block as an emotional reaction.

Questions people ask

1

Why does a text tool show 뛉 as separate jamo?

A Hangul syllable can be represented as one precomposed block or as its component jamo. Unicode normalization can decompose the block into those parts or compose them again, changing the representation rather than the syllable's identity.
