뗙 is a Hangul syllable block: one written Korean syllable built from three letters. It belongs inside Korean text and can also test a Korean keyboard, font, or text-processing system. Its role in a message depends on the surrounding Korean word. A Korean input method builds it from separate letters, while Unicode stores the finished block as one character.

What 뗙 means

뗙 is one Korean written syllable, built from three Hangul letters.

The block combines the initial consonant ㄸ, the vowel ㅕ, and the final consonant ㄱ. Together they form a syllable; the Korean word around it supplies the full word-level meaning.

Hangul was designed to write Korean with a system organized around its sounds. Its creation was recorded in 1443, and the guide explaining the new script, Hunminjeongeum, was published in 1446. Early printed forms from 1447–1450 show the script’s first look; its letter shapes later changed with writing and printing styles. This block follows the same initial–vowel–final structure. The 1996 Unicode date marks encoding of this character, not the origin of Hangul.

How do I type 뗙 on a Korean keyboard?

Use the Korean two-set keyboard; the input method builds the block.

On the standard Korean two-set keyboard, ShiftE enters ㄸ, U enters ㅕ, and R enters final ㄱ. The input method editor (IME)—software that turns keystrokes into Hangul—assembles the syllable as you type, so the display can change before the sequence is complete.

Unicode stores the finished syllable as one character. Text normalization can reveal its three letter components, while text selection and line breaking should still keep the syllable together.

Neutral written syllable; the Korean word around it supplies its word-level meaning.

Alone, it can look like a typo or unfinished word; read the Korean text around it before deciding what the sender meant.

Does 뗙 have a reaction meaning on its own?

No established standalone reaction meaning is documented as of 2026-09-13. The surrounding Korean text shows what role this syllable plays in a message.

Why does 뗙 show as a box?

It can. A font or fallback font may lack Hangul coverage, so the character appears as a box. Use a font that supports Hangul; the underlying text remains 뗙.
