hangul syllable deum

Hangul Syllable Deum

듬 is a Korean Hangul syllable, not a standalone word or emoji. You meet it inside Korean words, where the whole word supplies the meaning. Copy it from the palette above; software can store it as one block or matching jamo.

What 듬 means

Context decides; 듬 alone has no fixed meaning.

Its role appears inside words such as 듬뿍 (“plentifully”), 더듬다 (“to fumble or stammer”), and 가다듬다 (“to settle or tidy”). On the trap 생각이 듬 or 생각이 듦?, the National Institute of Korean Language says 생각이 듦 is correct, not 생각이 듬.

As of 2026, the consulted histories describe Hangul as a system, not a first use of 듬: it was created in 1443 and explained in 1446 to make Korean easier to write. They record no separate cross-cultural meaning for this syllable. The same syllable may be stored as a precomposed block or matching jamo, with NFC recommended for interchange.

Why does 듬 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
