What 뒲 means

ㄷ, ㅟ, and ㄿ form this one block.

Hangul writes Korean syllables in compact blocks. Here, ㄷ is the opening consonant, ㅟ the vowel, and ㄿ the final consonant cluster; together they form one syllable, not three.

How did Hangul begin?

Before Hangul, Korean writers adapted Chinese characters through systems called Idu (이두), Gugyeol (구결), and Hyangchal (향찰), which were difficult to learn. King Sejong created Hangul in 1443; the 1446 book Hunminjeongeum explained the script’s purpose and design. Hangul became Korea’s official national writing system in 1894.
