What 꾚 means
A Korean writing unit; context gives it meaning.
Hangul sets consonant and vowel letters, called jamo, in square blocks. Unicode joins the short labels for this block’s initial consonant, vowel and final consonant to make “ggoep.”
How did Hangul begin?
Hangul was designed to make Korean easier to write.
King Sejong created Hangul, then called Hunminjeongeum (“proper sounds to teach the people”), in 1443; a book explained it in 1446. Before Hangul, Idu, Gugyeol and Hyangchal used Chinese characters to write Korean. Hangul later appeared in Buddhist, practical and literary texts; it gained official status in 1894.
