What 꽁 means
Use Korean 2-set input: ㄲ, then ㅗ, then ㅇ.
On a QWERTY keyboard, switch to Korean input and press ShiftR, H, D; the keyboard software joins the letters into a syllable as you type. On a phone, add a Korean keyboard and choose the 2-set/QWERTY layout.
This enters one syllable at a time: 꽁 is the opening syllable of 꽁무니, so continue with the rest of the word.
What does 꽁 mean?
It is a Korean syllable; the whole word supplies the meaning.
Hangul is the Korean writing system; 꽁 is one syllable block, built from an opening consonant (ㄲ), a vowel (ㅗ), and a final consonant (ㅇ). The block alone does not give a full word one fixed meaning: 꽁지 means a bird’s tail feathers, while 꽁무니 can mean an animal’s rear, a person’s backside, or the end of a line.
Hangul was created in 1443 to write Korean speech and teach correct pronunciation. The book explaining the script, 훈민정음, was completed in 1446. These dates belong to Hangul as a writing system, not to this individual syllable.
What if someone sends only 꽁?
A lone 꽁 needs its surrounding message for a reliable reading.
The pointed or teasing tone belongs to longer words, not to the syllable on its own: 꽁하다 means to nurse a grievance, and 꽁생원 teasingly describes a narrow-minded, inflexible person.
The Korean song 우부가 from the late Joseon period uses 꽁생원 as a character label; Korean dictionaries still record that teasing sense as of 2026-09-08.
Neutral as a Hangul syllable; any tone comes from its complete Korean word or sentence.
Do not read a bare 꽁 as a reaction without context.
