What 꽹 means
꽹 is the first syllable of the instrument's full name. 꽹과리 is a small hand gong played in nongak, Korean farmers' music.
It accompanied village rites, farm work, harvest hopes and community life. Late Joseon records show recognizable forms, with regional styles varying. The 꽹과리 player led changes and blessings beside the jing (a larger gong), janggu and buk drums. In the late 1970s, samulnori brought this four-instrument set onto the stage.
Neutral in Korean writing; alone, it can look unfinished.
A bare 꽹 may be a fragment; don't assume it names the gong.

1Questions people ask
1Why does 꽹 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
