What 꼣 means
Read it as one syllable in a Korean word.
The Hangul jamo (individual letters) ᄁ, ᅨ, and ᆺ are its initial consonant, vowel, and final consonant. Unicode derives “Ggyes” from them; it is a label, not a translation.
King Sejong's court created Hangul in 1443 with 28 letters. The 1446 book Hunminjeongeum explained the design and how to build syllable blocks, making Korean easier to write for people who could not read Chinese characters. Later names included eonmun (“vernacular writing”) and, after 1894, gukmun (“national writing”).

Questions people ask
1Why does 꼣 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
