What 궷 means
It writes one syllable rather than a full message. Its component letters are called jamo: ᄀ is the initial consonant, ᅰ the vowel, and ᆺ the final consonant.
King Sejong devised Hangul in 1443 as a purpose-built way to write Korean. A book explaining the script's purpose and principles, Hunminjeongeum, appeared in 1446. Earlier, Idu, Gugyeol and Hyangchal adapted Chinese characters to record Korean; they are historical context, not components of 궷.
