What 귘 means
It is one syllable, not a Korean word by itself. Its initial consonant is ㄱ, its vowel is ㅟ and its final consonant is ㅋ. A font with weak support for separate Hangul letters may display their sequence differently from the single-block form.
King Sejong's court devised Hangul in 1443 to make Korean easier to write than with Chinese characters; a book explained its principles in 1446. In Korea's Joseon dynasty, people used Hangul in letters and petitions, sometimes beside Hanja (Chinese characters). Hangul became Korea's standard script in the 20th century.
