What 걟 means
걟 is Hangul text, not an emoji. A font draws the block from three jamo: an initial consonant, a vowel and a final consonant cluster.
King Sejong devised Hangul in 1443; a 1446 guide, Hunminjeongeum, explained the new script. Chinese characters and adaptations made Korean hard to write, so Hangul aimed to ease reading. It spread through letters, petitions, Buddhist books and novels before official adoption in 1894.
Phags-pa, a square script based on Tibetan writing and used in the Mongol empire, has been proposed as an influence. Similarity alone does not prove descent; Hangul’s own guide explains its design.

Questions people ask
1Why does 걟 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
