What 핶 means
Use Korean input and enter the three parts in order.
Dubeolsik is a Korean keyboard layout: g, o, and Shiftr enter ㅎ, ㅐ, and ㄲ. A Korean IME (input method editor) combines those keystrokes into 핶.
If the letters stay separate, check that Korean input is active so the IME can compose them.
Does 핶 mean anything on its own?
It has no fixed word meaning without context.
핶 is one Korean syllable, built from the initial consonant ㅎ, the vowel ㅐ, and the final consonant ㄲ. It is a spelling unit inside Korean words; context supplies the word's meaning.
Hangul was created in 1443 so Korean speakers could write their language; a royal chronicle records the event. The Hunminjeongeum Haeryebon, an explanatory book published in 1446, explains the letters and how initial, middle, and final sounds form syllables.
Why is 핶 one block?
Hangul groups its letters into square syllable blocks.
The technical term for Hangul letters is jamo. Unicode's canonical decomposition of 핶 is the conjoining-jamo sequence 핶. NFC recomposes that sequence as 핶; NFD separates it into its three jamo.
ㅎㅐㄲ looks similar but uses compatibility jamo, a separate set of characters. It is not canonically equivalent to 핶, so NFC will not combine it; exact text matching can therefore fail.
A Korean spelling unit; the surrounding word supplies its meaning.

Don't confuse it with
1ㅎㅐㄲ Three compatibility jamo, not the canonical decomposition 핶; NFC will not compose this sequence into 핶.
Questions people ask
1Why does 핶 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
