What 할 means

The phrase around it decides. Before a noun, 할 points to something to do; in an ability phrase, it says someone can do it. Alone, it identifies neither a person nor a promise.

Hangul was created in 1443 and explained publicly in 1446 to make Korean easier to write. Earlier systems—Idu, Gugyeol, and Hyangchal—adapted Chinese characters for writing Korean.

Neutral Korean text; the sentence supplies its tone.

Alone, 할 does not mean “I will.”

Questions people ask

1

Why does 할 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
