What 힔 means
Enter glft on a Korean 2-set layout. The keys produce ㅎ, ㅣ, ㄹ, ㅅ; the last two join as the final cluster ㄽ (two consonants at the end of the syllable). If your Korean input method leaves them separate, enable Hangul syllable composition.
Why does 힔 form one block?
It joins an initial, a vowel, and a final cluster. Hangul writes a Korean syllable as a block built from its sound parts: 힔 contains ㅎ ㅣ ㄽ. In a Korean word, ㄽ is heard as ㄹ before a consonant or pause; before a vowel, its ㅅ is pronounced like the tense Korean sound ㅆ.
South Korea’s KS C 5601-1992 character standard included the complete modern Hangul syllable inventory; Unicode later encoded those combinations as text. This is the block’s encoding history, not the origin of Hangul.
What does 힔 mean alone?
Treat it as a Hangul fragment, not a reaction. As of 2026-09-14, 힔 has no established standalone slang or reaction meaning. In a message, ask what word it belongs to before assigning it a tone.
Neutral as a written syllable; the surrounding Korean word supplies its role.
A message containing only 힔 is not enough to infer a reaction.
