What 힡 means
Turn on Korean input and enter ㅎ, ㅣ, then ㅌ. On a Korean two-set keyboard, press G, L, X in that order; the input method joins them as 힡.
A Korean IME, or input method editor, is the software that assembles the block as you type. If the letters stay separate, switch to Korean input; the app may not compose Hangul.
Does 힡 have a meaning by itself?
Alone, 힡 gives a syllable sound, not a fixed message. Its role in a word comes from the Korean text around it.
If someone sends only 힡, treat it as a fragment of Korean spelling. Ask for the surrounding word or sentence before inferring a joke or emotion.
Why does 힡 look like ㅎㅣㅌ?
It combines three Hangul letters into one syllable block.
Hangul, the Korean writing system, was devised in 1443 and promulgated in 1446 as Hunminjeongeum, its original name. Its sound-based letters, called jamo, are grouped into syllable blocks. Early Korean texts used Hangul alongside Hanja, Chinese characters also used in Korean writing. Korean text uses Hangul blocks, while Hanja can also appear in South Korean writing. The script is commonly called Hangul in South Korea and Chosŏn'gŭl in North Korea.
The syllable can be written as a precomposed block or as a sequence of component letters. Fonts may position those components differently.
Neutral as Korean text; any tone comes from the word or sentence around it.
Without surrounding Korean, don't treat a bare 힡 as a reaction; ask what word it belongs to.
