Hangul Syllable Hwag

It is a word-part, not a standalone translation. As an adverb, 확 marks something arriving suddenly and strongly, like wind or a chill. In 확정, 확실히, 확산 and 확인, the full word carries the sense of certainty, decision, or spread.

Hangul combines initial, medial, and final letters into one block: here ㅎ + ㅘ + ㄱ. The script was created to fit Korean speech, with its purpose recorded in 1443 and explained in a 1446 guide. As of 2026-09-07, no separate first use of 확 alone was established; the same block can stand for several Hanja readings, so context decides.
