Hangul Syllable Hweol

Where did 훨 come from?

It comes from Hangul’s syllable-building system, not a pictogram. As of 2026, the reviewed sources trace Hangul’s system rather than a separate invention or earliest attestation for this individual block.

Hangul was created in 1443, and the explanatory Hunminjeongeum manuscript was completed in 1446. The script was made to write Korean directly and make reading and communication accessible to more people.

How do you type 훨?
