What 헄 means

As of 2026-09-14, 헄 has no established Korean word meaning. Hangul is the Korean alphabet; each block joins letters into a syllable that normally appears inside a word.

Hangul was created under Korean King Sejong so people could write Korean without first mastering Chinese characters. It was announced in 1443; the 1446 book Hunminjeongeum set out the script’s design and purpose. Earlier methods such as Idu, Gugyeol, and Hyangchal used Chinese characters in different ways to write or annotate Korean; these were predecessors, not parts of Hangul. Hangul later appeared in Buddhist and Confucian texts, practical books, and private letters, and became an official script for Korean government documents in 1894.

How do I type 헄?

Use a Korean keyboard input method. A Korean input method (IME) is software for entering Korean text. Type ㅎ, then ㅒ, then ㅋ; it combines the initial consonant, vowel, and final consonant into one block.

Why can 헄 appear as separate jamo?

Unicode can represent it as three component letters. Unicode normalization, a standard way to rewrite equivalent text, can store 헄 as ᄒ + ᅤ + ᆿ. These jamo are Hangul’s component letters: an opening consonant, a vowel, and a final consonant. Software that lays out Hangul letters together can display them as one block; without that support, they may remain separate.

Why does 헄 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
